Abhyasa and Vairagya
Regular yoga practice and non-attachment to results
Abhyasa is a regular and constant practice of yoga to obtain soul freedom.
Well,, for everything in life we need practice to perfect what we're doing.
Also in yoga you need to have a regular practice to obtain results.
But this is tricky because there is another concept in yoga called Vairagya, that means renunciation, dispassion and non-attachment to the results of practice
OK, now we have a dilemma: how can I practice without expecting any result?
Our society is based on results! I do something and I expect that something will come from that.
This is actually simple in theory : You know that some results can happen but it doesn't matter if they happen or not. What really matters is the practice in the present moment in the here and now because, this is the only Reality.
And why do I want to obtain soul freedom?
Well, the soul is already free, for sure, but because people are still caught in delusion, they still have fears, anxieties, moments of depression. Fear of diseases, anxiety for the future, regrets about the past. Does this look familiar to you?
Lord Krishna told his beloved disciple Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita: "Get away from My ocean of suffering."
What’s the get away road? Practice yoga, practice meditation, live in the now!
Regularity is more important than quantity! Do a little bit of practice everyday and when you’re not waiting for any result, wondrous things will happen!
