The trip to Anahata chakra
“When all the knots of the heart are broken, then the mortal becomes immortal.”
(Katha Upanishad 6.15)
About two years ago when I was going to teach a workshop about the heart chakra, one student asked me if she would need this workshop to find her perfect companion!
We live so much outward, toward the external world that we forget that the perfect companion is inside ourselves, not outside in some castle or riding a white horse in some distant land.
The heart is identified with absolute consciousness. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna reveals to Arjuna that He (Krishna or Cosmic Consciousness) is in the heart of all beings:
"I am the Atma, Arjuna
abiding in the heart of all beings;
and I am the beginning and the middle of beings and the end as well."
Yoga and meditation are the ticket to access this wonderful world of your inner Self.
Practice meditation for the heart chakra:
How to Meditate — Beginner's Instructions
Preparing a Space for Meditation
- Find a quiet, peaceful place where you can be undisturbed during meditation. Create your own sanctuary exclusively for your meditation practice.
- Sit with spine straight on chair or cross legged on a firm surface — cover that surface with a woolen blanket and/or a silk cloth (if possible). This insulates your seat from the downward pull of subtle earth currents.
1) Introduction
- After you are established in the meditation posture, take a moment to set an intention for your practice, whatever it is your heart most needs, any healing, any transformation, anything you want to manifest in your lives, offer your meditation for that purpose. You can also send this energy out to the world or to a loved one . Focus at the spiritual eye to empower your intentions.
- You can also begin with Om chant, if you like
2) Tense and Relax to Remove All Stress
- Inhale, tensing the whole body and clenching the fists.
- Relax all the body parts at once and, as you do so, expel the breath through the mouth in a double exhalation, "huh, huuuuh."
- Repeat this practice three to six times.
- Then forget the breath. Let it flow in and out naturally, of its own accord, as in ordinary breathing.
3) Focus Attention at the 6th chakra (Spiritual Eye)
- With the eyelids half closed (or completely closed, if this is more comfortable to you), look upward, focusing the gaze and the attention as though looking out through a point between the eyebrows. Do not cross the eyes or strain them; the upward gaze comes naturally when one is relaxed and calmly concentrated.
- What is important is fixing the whole attention at the point between the eyebrows.
4) Chant Om in your chakras
- Beginning from the bottom (1st chakra) to the crown of the head (7th chakra). Although your eyes are concentrated at the point between the eyebrows, your attention goes to each chakra you’re chanting to.
- You can do it 6 times, Stop at the heart chakra and just breath there.
5) Be one with the Divine Consciousness inside your heart
- A good practice is to take an affirmation and repeat it several times. You can also sing mantras.
- And then, silently be still, keeping the attention at the point between the eyebrows, until you feel a response as calm, deep peace, love and inner joy.
